Recommendations

  • Bring warm layered clothing, including a windproof jacket, gloves, and a hat, especially for early mornings and high-altitude areas such as Abra Málaga.
  • Wear comfortable hiking shoes with good traction suitable for uneven terrain and wet conditions.
  • Carry binoculars (minimum 8x or 10x recommended) and, if possible, a spotting scope for distant high-Andean species.
  • For photographers, a telephoto lens (300–600 mm) is highly recommended, along with spare batteries due to cold temperatures.
  • Use sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as UV radiation is strong at high elevations.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated throughout the tour.
  • Be prepared for early departures to take advantage of optimal bird activity during the Golden Hour.
  • Walk slowly, speak quietly, and follow the guide’s instructions to ensure ethical wildlife observation and minimize disturbance.
  • Inform the guide in advance of any health conditions related to altitude or physical activity.
  • Respect local communities, cultural sites, and natural habitats by following Leave No Trace principles.
